Ty's Take
A tattoo artist sets up shop downtown while the school system watches another class of kids move away—that's Silver City in a nutshell these days, isn't it? The ones who stay are reinventing the place, filling empty storefronts with art and craft and small businesses that don't depend on mining paychecks or state funding. Nothing wrong with that. But you can't run a town on tattoos and yard sales alone, and when your schools are shrinking year after year, you're watching something real slip away. We've got the natural assets, the university, the outdoor recreation that draws people from everywhere. The question nobody wants to answer is whether we're building something sustainable or just trading one boom-and-bust cycle for another.
