Ty's Take
The valley's got a lot on its plate this fall, and most of it matters more than usual. School boards are navigating outside pressure on student events, health care officials are chasing grant money to keep rural medicine alive, and the county's got road crews busy keeping things open before winter locks us down. Meanwhile voters are staring at a ballot that looks like a phone book, which probably means it's time to crack a local news story or two before you mark anything. At least we've got the Met Opera coming to the Steam Plant on Tuesday night, which is exactly the kind of thing that makes Salida different from a hundred other small towns trying to survive. Sometimes the culture and the serious work have to happen in the same week.
