Ty's Take
The fire department's open house this month gives folks a chance to do something we don't do enough around here: say thanks to people who show up at three in the morning because your house is burning or your kid stopped breathing. It's easy to take that for granted in a town our size, where you know half the volunteers by name anyway, but FIREs don't care who you are or what you can pay. Neither do the people who run into burning buildings. October's a good month to remember that, and it costs nothing but an hour of your time.
