Ty's Take

Housing keeps coming up because housing won't go away, and this week it's hard to miss the pattern. We've got apartments rolling forward in Buena Vista while Salida's fumbling to find a partner for the project on First and D, the city's chewing on energy standards for new construction, and meanwhile people who work here can't afford to live here, which is why the town's bleeding employees faster than we've seen in years. None of this is complicated. We're growing the way Front Range money grows places, which means the people who actually run the schools and keep the businesses open and know where the fish bite are getting priced out of the future they helped build. There's no single fix, but pretending it's separate problems instead of one problem wearing different hats isn't going to solve anything either.
