Ty's Take
Fat bears getting fatter, tomato warriors lobbing produce at each other, and a star party coming up Friday night, which means somebody around here actually remembers what the sky looks like when the Front Range light pollution stays down valley where it belongs. This is the time of year in Salida when things loosen up a little, when people remember why they moved here instead of staying locked to I-25, and when the season starts to shift from the solid heat of summer tourist season toward something quieter. Come fall, the river will still run cold and clear, the Collegiates will be turning color, and we'll get about five minutes of peace before the ski crowd arrives. Might as well enjoy it while we've got it.
