Ty's Take
Housing's the conversation that won't quit around here, and this week our youth liaison put numbers to what everybody already feels: young people who grew up in Salida can't afford to stay, and that's bleeding into every other problem you can name. Schools lose teachers. Businesses lose workers. The river towns that built their identity on being places where artists and adventurers could actually live are becoming second homes for Denver money. It's not new, but when you hear it from someone whose job is literally keeping young people engaged in their own community, you know the math has gotten serious. The good news is people like our youth liaison are saying it out loud instead of just shrugging. The hard news is knowing what to do about it takes more than good intentions.
