Ty's Take
The housing numbers out of Buena Vista land like a punch nobody wanted to see coming, and they're worth taking seriously if you live anywhere in this valley. When a town can't pencil out affordability for teachers, nurses, and the folks who actually keep the lights on, you're not looking at a local problem anymore, you're watching the shape of the future get decided right now. Up the road in Salida we've been wrestling with short-term rentals and what a real neighborhood looks like, and down valley they're staring at the same question: who gets to stay, and who gets priced out? The county commissioners are weighing ballot measures this week, but the real work starts with honest conversations about what we're willing to protect and what we're willing to change. This valley's always attracted people with big dreams and empty pockets. The hard part is figuring out how to keep that true.
