Labor Day weekend used to mean one thing around here: the river runs full, the festival hits, and half the valley closes down because everybody's either on the water or working the crowds. These days it means that plus a yard sale to fund the humanists, a school board scrambling to fill a seat mid-year, pickleball tournaments pulling teams from across the West, and the usual political noise about who's going to fix what. Nothing wrong with any of that, but it says something about how Salida's grown. We're not a one-story town anymore, and some weeks it shows. The real question is whether we're keeping up with ourselves, or just adding events to a calendar that's already full.
