Ty's Take

Guns showing up on F Street again is the kind of headline that stops you cold in a town like this, and not because we're naive about firearms around here. This valley's got ranchers, hunters, and plenty of people who know their way around a rifle or a handgun. But there's a difference between responsible ownership and whatever keeps bringing guns into downtown Salida, into the blocks where the galleries are, where families walk to get coffee and ice cream. It's worth asking what's driving it and whether we've got a pattern or a moment. Either way, it's the kind of thing that shouldn't become normal, even in a place that knows guns.
