The housing numbers the city council heard this week won't surprise anyone who's tried to rent or buy around here lately, but at least now we've got the data to back up what we already know: this valley can't keep up with itself. Front Range money and remote work have rewritten the rules faster than the city planning department can draft code, and meanwhile the folks who actually work here, who guide the rafts and pour the beer and keep the county running, are getting priced out. The assessment is a start, but numbers are easy. The hard part is figuring out what we're willing to build and what we're willing to lose to stay affordable, and that conversation hasn't really started yet.
