Ty's Take

The valley's been buzzing about federal pressure tied up with the Peters case, which lands different depending who you talk to and what you believe about leverage in these situations, but what matters now is moving forward, and that's exactly what the nonprofits and small businesses around here seem fixed on doing. Whether it's the Pride Coalition drawing folks to Buena Vista for the sprint, or the rock and gem show pulling collectors through town, or Mount Princeton sweetening the summer stay for overnight guests, this is the season when Salida and the upper valley make their money and build their community at the same time. These aren't separate things around here. A 5K benefits an organization. A weekend in the mountains means food at local restaurants and gas pumped at local stations. The hot springs put heads in beds. It's how we've always worked, and right now, with all the outside pressure and change bearing down on us, that steady work matters more than it used to.
