Ty's Take

The county fair Saturday is the kind of thing you either grow up understanding or you don't, and most of us around here did. Kids roping calves, families working stock together, the ranch rodeo showing what actually happens on the land instead of in a arena somewhere else. It's not nostalgia, exactly. It's the real work of the valley, the part that built this place before the galleries and the festival crowds, the part that still keeps the county going out past the edges of town where most people never look. If you've got kids or grandkids, take them. If you don't, go anyway and remember what you're looking at.
