A firefighter from the Knowles Fire has died, and that loss sits heavy on all of us who watched that fire tear through the valley last summer. Three others have already been lost to injuries from that same blaze, which means the real cost of that disaster keeps climbing in ways that go way beyond what the insurance adjusters ever calculate. You don't get over something like that in a community this size, and you shouldn't try to. What we can do is remember why those people ran toward the flames while the rest of us were running the other way, and make sure their sacrifice means something beyond a news cycle.
