The ballot delivery fight and the essay club meeting on the same page tells you something about where we're at—half the town worried the mail won't get there, half convinced democracy itself is on life support, and everybody else probably just trying to get to Piano-Palooza. Meanwhile the city council's got real work to do on water and that old fire station, which matters more to most folks' daily lives than any of it. But that's the thing about a town this size: we've got room for both the big-picture arguments and the actual business of living here, even when they're happening in the same breath.
