Ty's Take
Commodity Day doesn't make the statewide news, but any farmer or rancher in Phelps County knows what it means: a chance to connect with folks who buy what you're selling, to move product, to keep the machinery running another season. That our middle schoolers are showing up to help work it says something about how this community still runs. Kids in town aren't just passing through on their way somewhere else, not yet anyway. They're learning where the money comes from, what keeps the whole operation going, why their parents and neighbors spend half their lives thinking about commodity prices and weather windows. In a place like Rolla, that kind of education happens outside the classroom as much as in it.
