Elm Street's going to be torn up for a few days while they get the utilities sorted, which is never fun downtown but it's the kind of work that keeps a town running straight instead of sideways. Meanwhile Ranney Run's hitting ten years, and if you've never made that float trip south of here on a September afternoon when the water's still warm and the maples are starting to think about turning, you're missing something that's kept people coming back to these Ozarks streams for a hundred years. Both are reminders that Rolla's got to keep its bones strong while its soul stays out on the water.

Elm Street to be closed for utility work

The City of Rolla will close Elm Street between Highway 72 and Newman Road on Friday, August 14, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for utility work. Motorists should use alternate routes during this time and watch for work crews as the street will reopen once repairs are complete.

Ranney Run to celebrate 10th anniversary on Sept. 19
