Ty's Take

Two fresh monuments at Veterans Memorial Park mean Rolla's finally gotten around to honoring some stories that should've been cast in bronze a long time ago. This is the kind of work that doesn't make anybody rich or famous, but it matters more than most things that do. In a county where a good chunk of families have somebody in uniform, either now or going back three generations, these dedications are how we say we remember. It's the kind of afternoon that brings out the people who actually show up, who stand quiet for a minute, who know exactly why they're there. That's Phelps County doing what Phelps County does.
