Ty's Take

The Fourth of July parade committee's already thinking eight months ahead, which is either the mark of good planning or a sign that winter's got us all restless—probably both. Nothing wrong with sketching out next year's route and float lineup now; gives the local businesses and the S&T clubs time to build something worth seeing instead of throwing it together Labor Day weekend like we usually do. The parade's always been this town's best argument for itself, a chance to remind folks that Rolla's still got that small-town spine even with the university growing the way it does. Worth getting ahead of it for once.
