Fifty-two million federal dollars flowing into wildlife conservation and outdoor access across the region, new wayfinding signs going up around town to help visitors find their way, and Yellowstone tightening the reins on fishing in those rivers and streams again. Add it all up and you're looking at the tension that defines places like Red Lodge these days: we want the tourists, we want the recreation economy, we want people discovering what's up here. But we also know that more people means more pressure on the water, the fish, the land itself. The good news is somebody's paying attention to it. The better news is that money might actually help us manage the growth without watching it all get loved to death.
