Ty's Take

You want to talk about timing? We've got a prescribed burn canceled on Eight Mile Mesa while the San Juan Stargazers are planning to aim their telescopes at clear skies come October, and somewhere in between we're marking Indigenous People's Day in a town that sits on the border of Ute country with real history running underneath every street corner. That's not bad news about the burn getting postponed, by the way. It means somebody looked at conditions and made the right call instead of the stubborn one. Around here, that kind of judgment is what keeps the forest standing and keeps us safe. Meanwhile, the theater's bringing in a play about what happens behind the scenes on a Hollywood set, the stargazers are doing what they've done for years, and we're taking time to remember that this land has older stories than ours. Not a bad week for a small town to remember what matters.
