Ty's Take

Water's been the story around here for years, and not always in the ways we hoped. Last week it was drought and fire danger. This week the county's declaring disaster over flooding, and we've had to shut down the landfill because the ground's too wet to operate. It's the kind of whipsaw that makes you wonder if anyone's got a handle on what comes next in these mountains. Thing is, you can't blame folks for being tired of it. We've got ranchers and homeowners already stretched thin, and now they're dealing with road damage and runoff instead of dust. The San Juans don't give us much middle ground anymore.
