Ty's Take

The word on U.S. 160 reconstruction used to be that it'd be done by now, then next summer, then the summer after that. At some point you stop asking when and start asking who's actually in charge, which is probably why our county commissioners were keen to hear the latest update this week. That corridor between here and Bayfield does more than move tourists to Wolf Creek and the hot springs, it moves the whole county's blood. When it's torn up, everything feels it. Congressman Bennet's calling for an investigation into how federal projects get funded and prioritized, and maybe he's onto something worth thinking about beyond the usual finger-pointing. Around here we've learned the hard way that patience with infrastructure isn't a virtue, it's a tax on people trying to make a living.
