Ty's Take

There's something worth sitting with in the news that three separate Colorado victories are happening in our backyard this week—a library fundraiser that keeps our archive alive, a theater company that proves culture takes root even in towns of 1,800, and a milestone celebration of river otters thriving in waters that run right past us. None of it makes the state news, none of it moves the needle on tourism boards, but that's exactly the point. This is what towns do when they decide to build something that lasts. The library doesn't sell books to turn a profit. Thingamajig doesn't perform to fill seats from Denver. The otters didn't come back because we had a strategy; they came back because people forty and fifty years ago did the patient work of restoration. If you're new here or just passing through, these small commitments might look like quaint local color. If you live here, you know they're the difference between a place that endures and one that just exists.
