Ty's Take

There's a wolf dead up in Routt County this week, and down here we're still sorting through what that means for the rest of us living on the San Juans' eastern slope. Colorado Parks and Wildlife says it had no collar, no way to track it, so they made the call—lethal removal. Fair enough on the surface, but it's worth asking whether we're still learning how to live alongside predators we spent a century erasing, or whether we've just decided we'd rather not. The school board's asking voters hard questions about priorities, kids need summer programs and safe housing, and the roads are getting fixed—all the grinding work of a place trying to take care of its own. But that wolf, uncollared and suddenly gone, reminds me that some of the biggest decisions get made quietly, out of sight, when nobody's really watching.
