Ty's Take

The Rio Grande SUN picked up 43 awards at the New Mexico Press Association banquet, which says something about doing hard work in a small place where nobody's getting rich but everybody knows what matters. That's what happens when you cover land grant history and water rights and the real tensions between who's been here for centuries and who showed up last summer with a trust fund. A paper that small doesn't win that many awards because it's chasing clicks or running hot takes. It wins because somebody's paying attention, asking the hard questions about accountability and fair wages and what it means to run a business in this country, and then putting it in print where neighbors have to look each other in the eye the next morning. Good work up the valley deserves notice, even if nobody in Chama or Abiquiú was sitting at that banquet in Albuquerque.
