Ty's Take

There's a thread running through this week's blotter that ought to make anybody who works retail or runs a business around here think twice about locking up at night. Two separate incidents, both involving men acting in ways that cross from nuisance into something meaner, and both landing in the hands of law enforcement who are already stretched thin covering country this wide. The third item, about students making the President's List, is the kind of news that usually gets buried but probably matters more in the long run. Still, it's the first two that'll stick with people working the counter at Bode's or any of the other small outfits that keep this corridor running. This is a safe place, or it has been, and there's a difference between the random stranger passing through and the kind of behavior that makes a clerk or a cashier wonder if they can make it to closing alone.
