Man shoots at a snake and ends up in court over it, only to walk free. That's the kind of story that makes you wonder what the actual facts were, because around here you don't typically catch grief for defending yourself against a rattler, and yet somebody thought there was enough of a case to press it. Could be he missed the snake and hit something else. Could be he was in town instead of out in the country where that kind of thing might fly. Could be a whole lot of things the headline doesn't tell you. Meanwhile down in Española, somebody got arrested in a Walmart parking lot, which tells you nothing except that the world keeps bleeding in from the highways. These days you take the small local wins where you find them, and a dismissed case beats going to trial any day of the week.
