Most folks up here don't move to the Chama Valley looking for quiet, exactly, but there's a difference between the natural sounds of this country and somebody else's idea of entertainment bleeding through your walls at midnight. When someone's complaint about noise gets printed in the paper, it usually means they've already tried the neighborly approach and come up empty. This high desert's got enough to contend with without turning home into someplace you can't rest, and the people who chose to live here chose it partly for what it isn't. Worth wondering if the rest of us are paying attention to what gets lost when we stop hearing the river and the wind instead.
