Ty's Take
Housing keeps coming up at council meetings, and David Hampton's letter nails why it matters here more than most places. This county's tied to Lab growth in ways a lot of towns aren't, which means when the Lab expands, housing prices follow like a heat-seeking missile, and people who actually work here, teach here, keep the place running, they get priced out or forced down the hill into Española. The county commissioners are paying attention, at least judging by what the League of Women Voters observers are seeing week to week. But paying attention and fixing it are different things, and folks around here know the difference. Hampton's treating this like the dignity issue it is, not just another market problem to let sort itself out.
