Ty's Take

There's a particular kind of quiet that settles over a town this size when the big news of the week is a proclamation about broadband access and a local dance school mounting The Nutcracker. You could read that as slow, and maybe it is, but around here it feels more like the rhythm of a place that knows what matters: getting reliable internet to the folks on the edges of the plateau, keeping the kids engaged in something that isn't a screen, making sure the machinery of local government still turns and people still care enough to write letters about it. Eight years in, our local paper is still doing the work of connecting us to each other. That's not nothing, especially not on the hill, where you can be surrounded by some of the brightest minds in the country and still feel isolated if nobody's paying attention to what's actually happening in your neighborhood.
