Ty's Take
Jim Dyson spent nearly five decades around Los Alamos, which means he watched this plateau change more than most, saw the Lab grow and shrink and grow again, knew the names of people who've since moved down to Santa Fe or back east. The rain came heavy in September this year, over five and a half inches, which is good news for fire season even if the scars from Cerro Grande and Las Conchas still run deep in how folks think about October. His obituary tells you what the numbers say, but anyone who's been here that long has stories the paper won't print, the kind of small-town knowing that disappears when someone like that passes. The town's still here, still standing on the plateau, still watching the weather and the Lab and each other. That doesn't change much.
