Ty's Take
Slow week on the hill, which means what's actually moving is the small stuff that shapes how a town lives. You've got people arguing about breakfast sugar at the elementary school while the Lab's brightest are getting Fellows' Prizes, the ski resort is finally dropping real money into infrastructure ahead of opening day, and the Y is getting ready for a memorial run. Meanwhile housing is still the argument underneath everything, and fire season's always waiting in the mountains around us. This is what it looks like when a place has too much brainpower focused on one employer and not enough common ground on anything else. The Santa Fe half marathon selling out with LAFD in the relay tells you something though, about how these communities still reach toward each other, even when the plateau's pulled us inward.
