Ty's Take

Eight more researchers making Fellow status at the Lab is the kind of news that barely moves the needle around here, and maybe that's exactly the problem. On the Pajarito Plateau, brilliance is the baseline. We've got physicists buying groceries at Smith's, engineers coaching Little League, Nobel-caliber minds worrying about the same things as everyone else: fire season, housing costs, whether the road up the hill will ever get less crowded. The Lab's success is Los Alamos's success, no question about that, but it's also easy to forget sometimes that this whole town exists because people somewhere decided the future of warfare and energy mattered more than anything else. That legacy doesn't disappear just because it's 2026 and we're mostly trying to live normal lives on the side of a mountain.
