Ty's Take
Michael Devereux spent fifty years on the plateau, and when you've got someone who roots that deep in a place like this, his passing leaves a real hole. The County Council keeps meeting, the writers keep gathering (James McGrath Morris talking Hillerman this month), homecoming's already being planned for next year, and yeah, the Frijoles Fire picked up some acreage the past few days like it always does come late summer. But there's something about losing someone who watched this town grow from the Lab's shadow into what it is now, who saw the fires come and the scientists arrive and all the strange weight that comes with living where you do. Read the obit. He was worth knowing about, even if you didn't know him.
