Ty's Take

Carmen Geoffrion turned a hundred years old this week, and somebody decided the right way to mark that was to paint her face on a rock in White Rock for the whole county to see. There's something deeply, unapologetically small-town about that move, the kind of thing that happens in places where people actually know their neighbors and don't mind making a fuss when somebody's done the work of living a full century. In a county built on the biggest science in the world, where the Lab pulls in the smartest minds and the highest paychecks, it's worth stopping to notice when we still take time to honor the simple fact of showing up for a hundred years. That's the kind of foundation that matters more than anything on the plateau.
