Word came down this week that the Secretary of Energy showed up at the Urenco groundbreaking on the hill, which tells you something about where the Lab's work sits in the national calculus these days. Meanwhile, down in Guatemala, NNSA and DTRA were pulling radioactive sources out of harm's way, and our state AG is suing the Justice Department over how the DEA handled fentanyl intel. It's a strange week where the biggest science story and the deepest public health crisis are happening in parallel, one drawing federal pomp and the other playing out in court documents. Los Alamos County lives in that gap between world-class technical work and the messy human problems that don't get solved in labs or press conferences. Both matter. Both belong in the conversation about what we're doing here.
