Ty's Take
There's a body found in the mountains, a kid earning scholarship money, somebody hiring folks for next fall, and the usual late-summer mix of community life playing out on the plateau—which is exactly how it should be when you're two weeks into August and the fire season is still holding its breath. Down the hill in Española and Santa Fe, people are talking about growth and housing and whether the Lab's expansion is eating up the county, but here in Los Alamos the real news is quieter: a young man from Highlands building his future, the schools getting ready for next year, neighbors showing up for each other. That doesn't mean we're not watching the sky. We're always watching the sky. But for now, this is a town that works, that plans, that remembers the ones we've lost, and that hasn't forgotten how to live between the hard things.
