Ty's Take
The McCauley Springs Fire sitting at a hundred percent contained is the kind of headline this town learned to hold its breath over back in 2000 and again in 2011—you don't let yourself relax until the last ember's cold and the monsoon's locked in. But there's something else worth noticing in this week's stack: the argument brewing over the CB FOX redevelopment, with council members and business owners squaring off over public money and what happens when the Lab's gravity pulls development dollars one direction while the existing downtown gets left in the dust. It's the oldest small-town story there is, especially out here where everything orbits one employer and one employer's paycheck. You can build something new and shiny, or you can shore up what's already here. Usually you can't do both. The next few council meetings are going to matter more than they look.
