Ty's Take

We lost two good neighbors this week—Evelyn Ward, who saw this town built from the ground up on the plateau, and Allen Sherwood, who lived most of his life here watching it change. That's what a slow July Fourth weekend means in a place like Los Alamos: the pancake breakfasts and parades still happen, the blood drives still call, the music still plays at Beef & Leaf, but the real work of a small town keeps on—remembering who stayed, who mattered, who built this strange place where physicists raise families under the Jemez peaks and wildfire scars remind us nothing's permanent. Evelyn made it to 101. Allen didn't. Either way, they're part of the bedrock now.
