Ty's Take
Road work is never safe, and a MoDOT crew dealing with an injury out in Laclede County this week is a stark reminder of that. Those crews work the shoulders and medians while traffic rolls past at highway speeds, and it only takes one distracted driver or one moment of bad luck to turn a routine pothole into a tragedy. The folks maintaining I-44 and our state routes don't get the attention they deserve, but every time you hit a smooth stretch of asphalt between here and Springfield, somebody's already paid the price to keep it that way. Hope whoever got hurt recovers without complication, and maybe this is a good week to remember that orange cones and safety vests aren't decoration.
