A drowning at a local campground and a parking lot loitering call might seem like separate problems, but they tell the same story about what happens when summer kicks into high gear around here. The warm months bring more people to our rivers and parks, more traffic through town, more activity everywhere, which means our law enforcement stays busy doing the work most of us don't see until something goes wrong. The sheriff's office and police department aren't just waiting for emergencies to happen, they're out there managing the daily friction that comes with a crossroads town in the season when everybody wants to be outdoors. It's worth remembering next time you see a patrol car that these folks are threading a needle, trying to keep things safe without making Lebanon feel like someplace locked down. That's harder work than most of us give them credit for.
