Ty's Take
You know a town's thinking about its future when it starts paying attention to how people move through it on foot. Lebanon's got the meeting scheduled, and that's worth showing up for if you've got an opinion about our sidewalks or how safe it feels walking downtown. We're a crossroads town with Route 66 running through us and I-44 just north, which means we've always thought in terms of cars and trucks. But there's something to be said for a place where kids can walk to the library for a teddy bear picnic without their parents white-knuckling it the whole way. The boat plants keep people working and the river keeps them coming back, but a community that works on its walkability works on itself.
