City's finally putting sidewalks on the agenda, which means somebody downtown noticed what the rest of us already know: you can't walk from the courthouse to the boat plants without playing dodgeball with traffic. Lebanon's been a crossroads town long enough to remember when people actually moved around on foot, and with Bennett Spring bringing anglers through here and Route 66 still drawing travelers, better walkways might be the kind of infrastructure that matters more than we give it credit for. The public meeting's a start, anyway, and it'll be worth seeing what kind of fixes the city's thinking about and whether they're serious enough to make the difference between a town that feels lived-in and one that just looks busy from the highway.
