Ty's Take
Coralie Bailey Carrier lived ninety-three years in a place that changed more in her lifetime than most towns change in a century. She saw Las Cruces grow from a crossroads into a city, watched the valley's farms get carved into subdivisions, raised her family through decades when you knew everybody on your street and half the county besides. Obits like hers are reminders that the people who remember what this place was, really was, they're the ones leaving us now. The rest of us are too busy managing what it's becoming to much think about what it was. That's not necessarily wrong, but it's worth noting when someone who held all that history decides it's time to go.
