Ty's Take

Bernie Carrillo made it to 92 in a place that doesn't always make it easy to stay, which says something about the man and about Las Cruces. He was the kind of person whose name you'd recognize if you'd been here long enough, the kind who watched the city grow from something you could cross in twenty minutes to what it is now, and probably had opinions about most of that growth. Meanwhile, a daughter somewhere in town decided her mother needed help and started a business to give it, which is the other story we don't write about enough, the unglamorous work of keeping your parents standing when age starts leaning hard. Both of these things happen every day around here, and both of them matter more than we usually say.
