Ty's Take
Michelle Renee Sanders spent forty years in this valley, and from what the Bulletin reports, she spent most of that time doing the work that doesn't make the evening news. Running programs, showing up to meetings, making sure people who needed help knew where to find it. That's the kind of person a community notices after they're gone, not always before. Las Cruces has grown fast these past couple decades, sprawled out toward the foothills and toward the border, and in that kind of growth you lose track of the steady hands that held things together. The gaps left behind by folks like Sanders are the ones that actually matter.
