Thomas Ocie Williams lived ninety-four years in a valley that changed more in his lifetime than most places see in a century. He was here when the Mesilla Valley was still mostly farmland, when you could count the stoplights on one hand, and he stayed through the shopping centers and the sprawl and the water fights that never really end around here. The Bulletin's notice doesn't say much, but that's often how it goes with the old-timers who remember what this place was. Las Cruces grew up around people like that, and we don't always mark when they go.
