Ty's Take

There's something worth watching in how NMSU keeps threading the needle between what it was and what it's becoming. The university's always been the spine of this valley—Aggie football on Saturday, research dollars flowing into the ag college, kids from farming families getting their shot at something bigger. But growth has its cost, and Las Cruces knows it better than most. You can't expand research programs and double your enrollment without asking what you're building toward, whether it's still rooted in the place that made the school matter in the first place. The Aggies have always understood their mission runs deeper than athletics or rankings. Let's hope that stays true as the valley keeps pressing in around us.
