The Reveille masthead - Linn Creek Reveille, 1881-1882

Ty's Take

The lakefront market's doing a hard pivot these days, and anybody paying attention to property values around here has already noticed. Single-family homes dropped 30 percent in September while condos jumped 22 percent, which tells you something clear: families with kids are either leaving or staying put, but the retirees and second-home crowd are finding the condo life easier to stomach. It's not hard to understand why. A three-bedroom on the water means a three-bedroom's headaches, but a condo means PCE Construction's handling your roof and Four Seasons is handling your deer problem. The math gets simpler when you're looking at your last 20 years here instead of your first 20. That doesn't mean single-family homes are going anywhere, but it means the character of who lives here is shifting, and the real estate market's just the first thing to show it.
