Ty's Take

The air show crowds probably hadn't cleared the parking lots before somebody wrapped a catamaran around a boat lift down in Iowa, and that's the kind of thing that reminds you why the water out here demands respect even when conditions look perfect. We've got a bridge on Route W that's about to shut down for months while the state finally addresses a deck that's been deteriorating longer than most of us can remember, and there's a former county attorney who just dropped a wrongful termination suit, at least for now, which means we're all holding our breath to see what comes next. Between the accidents and the infrastructure work and the little earthquake that rattled folks over near Truman Lake, it's been one of those weeks where Lake country gets tested on multiple fronts. The real estate market's still humming along and the summer season's coming into view, but everybody who lives here year-round knows you don't get careless out on these waters or on these roads just because the tourists are having fun.
